The Host City[]
The host city of this FSC-edition is Liège , a major city and municipality located in the province of Liège in Wallonia, the French-speaking region of Belgium. The city, with its historical industrial tradition, is, furthermore, the principal economic and cultural centre of Wallonia.
The city is well known for its very crowded folk festivals. The 15th August festival ("Le 15 août") is maybe the best known, but you also have the Saint Nicholas festival around the 6th December which is organized by and for the students of the city University. Liège is, moreover, home to the well known and respected Opéra Royal de Wallonie (see picture below) and the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège.
Some main sights in the city are the 16th century palace of the Prince-Bishops of Liège, the present Liège Cathedral, the church of Saint-James (Saint-Jacques), and the museums MAMAC (Museum of Modern & Contemporary Art), Museum of Walloon Life, and Museum of Walloon Art & Religious Art.
Other sites of interest include the historical city centre (the Carré), the Hors-Château area, the Outremeuse area, the parks and boulevards along the Meuse river, the Citadel, the 400 steps stairway "Montagne de Bueren", and the stylish, imposing Liège-Guillemins Railway Station (see picture below) designed by Santiago Calatrava.
The Venue[]
The host venue of FSC January 2013 is Le Forum de Liège , a historical and prestigious theatre/entertainment venue (see picture below) in Liège which opened its doors to the public in 1922. It is presented in the Art Deco architectural style and has up through the years catered to famous singers and artists, accomplished comedians and dedicated variety performers. It has over time become a monument of cultural life in Liège and Wallonia.
The Hosts[]
Our lovely hosts this evening are: Matthias Schoenaerts and Cécile de France.
Matthias Schoenaerts (born on 8th December 1977 in Antwerpen, Belgium) is a famous Belgian actor.
