March 2015 saw the 73rd edition of FSC. It was held in the city of Salzburg in Austria because Conchita Wurst won in the preceding edition with the song "Heroes". 34 countries participated - all of FSC 72 except for Albania and Spain. However, Brazil returned after a longer absence.
Norway achieved its second win thanks to group Ask Embla and their song "Lay It On Me". They had a margin of 18 points to the Finnish entry that placed second. The United States, Germany and Switzerland completed the top five.
The Host City Edit
Our host city this month is historic Salzburg, the fourth largest city in Austria, named after the salt barges carrying their precious cargo up the Salzach river.
Salzburg's "Old Town" (Altstadt) is internationally renowned for its baroque architecture and is one of the best-preserved city centers north of the Alps. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The city has three universities and a large population of students. Tourists also visit Salzburg to tour the historic center and the scenic Alpine surroundings.
Salzburg was the birthplace of 18th-century composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In the mid‑20th century, the city was the setting for the musical play and film The Sound of Music.
The Venue Edit
Our venue this month is Hangar 7, a multifunctional building with a restaurant, bars, a lounge, and a collection of historical aircraft on display.
