The 108th edition of FSC was hosted in Tangier, Morocco, following the 3rd victory of Morocco in FSC with Faouzia performing 'My heart's grave'.
In this edition, we have a total of 34 entries, down one from the previous edition. This is due to withdrawals by Brazil and Lithuania, and Canada returning.
During the results, there were a high number (six) non-voting juries, but in the end Poland was crowned as the winner. Second place went to Spain and Serbia completed the podium with a third place result.
The Host City[]
Tangier is a major city in northwestern Morocco. It is located on the Maghreb coast at the western entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar, where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean off Cape Spartel.
Many civilisations and cultures have impacted the history of Tangier starting from before the 5th century BC. Between the period of being a strategic Berber town and then a Phoenician trading centre to the independence era around the 1950s, Tangier was a nexus for many cultures. In 1923, it was considered as having international status by foreign colonial powers, and became a destination for many European and American diplomats, spies, writers and businessmen.
The city is currently undergoing rapid development and modernisation. Projects include new tourism projects along the bay, a modern business district called Tangier City Center, a new airport terminal and a new football stadium. Tangier's economy is also set to benefit greatly from the new Tanger-Med port.
The Venue[]
Our venue for this event is Stade Ibn-Batouta, which is a well-known multi-use stadium in Tangier, Morocco. Built in 2003, it is mostly used for the football matches but it can be an exciting venue for the FSC hosting as well. The stadium has a capacity of 45 000 people. It serves as the new home of IR Tanger, replacing the former Stade de Marchan.
The Hosts[]
Now let's welcome our hosts! As you can see, our first host is the only representative from an african or arabic country in the Eurovision Song Contest, Samira Said, who was taking part back in 1980 with her song "Bitaqat Hub". She is an arabic music, Egyptian pop and Moroccan pop legend, and she has written many albums since her debut in music which was in 1975 when she was only 17 years young.
Our second host for tonight's event is Gad Elmaleh, a Moroccan-French stand-up comedian and actor. He was born in 1971, Casablanca. Elmaleh's first contact with cinema was the full-length film, Salut cousin! by Merzak Allouache.
